London from the Edge

On Saturday I cycled from London to Southend on Sea and back, alond a cirucular route that took in quite a few places people don't often visit. This included Purfleet, just inside the M25. Here's the view looking back into town.

I too am interested in your route. My parents live in S-o-S so wouldn't mind cycling back to visit them someday. Thanks.

GPX is here: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/244542046

Inevitably (for those who know the area) some parts are pretty average. On the outward leg, things get better after Shenfield, and the loop around the reservoir is lovely. Coming back along the old road isn't much fun, there's a point where I take a rather rural off-road path for a couple of k, much better than the rather busy rural roads. The way back improves greatly after Thurrock.
